The following is a conversation with Refik Anadol. Refik is a media artist and director working in Los Angeles, California. He is an aesthetic pioneer in a new art form called ‘data art’, in which images and sounds are generated by the intervention of machine learning algorithms with data sets. Refik has been the recipient of numerous awards, including the Lorenzo il Magnifico Lifetime Achievement Award. He is also a lecturer at UCLA’s Department of Design Media Arts
